Lucas has been ringing with the Humber Wader Ringing Group since 2005.  He works for the University of Hull as a bird ecologist while undertaking a PhD with the BTO and the HWRG. His PhD study examines individual over-wintering strategies of Curlew around the Humber Estuary, with particular focus on the use of re-created intertidal areas. Lucas has taken a more active role in the group over the last two field seasons with the planning and coordination of catches.
